Basketball memories..

Wednesday February 25th
My night was bad, my throat hurt really bad and I kept waking up. When I looked into my throat, it was all red with white spots... Looks like a strep throat (angine). So this morning, I went to the clinic and she confirms: strep throat from a bacteria...nice..I never get sick in Switzerland, but I guess i'm not immune to American virus! We watch the movie “Schindler list” in history class. I already watched it, and to be honest, I like the subject, but this movie shocked me. All this torture for no reason, killing people just for “fun”... It's different to talk about it and watch it in a movie. So as I knew what was going to happen and I didn't want to watch it, I didn't pay attention to the movie at all, and Hollabaugh yelled at me. Track practice was really good: I ran 50 minutes and I did pretty good! I had my first high jump practice too. I feel really stupid when I did jump exercises, but then when I did real jump over the bar, I did really good! I jumped 4'2'' (1m28) and I still was a few inches above the bar! I did that without arching my back (what I should do). So the coach said that once I will be able to do it correctly, I will be a really good jumper!
I was proud of myself!
Then at home, I made dinner for my hostfamily. I made them crêpes...I couldn't believe they never ate crêpes before! They told me they liked it.. I don't know if they really did but I hope so!

Monday February 23rd
This was what I called a crappy day. Because we had so many school days cancelled because of the snow, and that the state requires a certain amount of hours, we now have a new schedule... This extended schedule makes that each class doesn't last 45 minutes but 1 hour...it is long! And I still had my cold, which means can't breath normally and headache. Love it. To even get better, just before I had my english class, the thermos full of tea that was in my locker fell...and I got tea everywhere: on my papers, on my coat, on my track clothes..yeah...So of course then I was late for class, first time in the year that I'm late.
I don't know why, but I struggled really bad with this track practice. We ran 50 minutes again, but last time was easy and this time I felt like I was dying. Blisters and cold may not have helped. After track, all I wanted was to go home and sleep, but I got a text from Teri mom saying that she couldn't pick me up so I had to find a ride or walk home. As it was -6 Farenheit (-20 celcius), that I have to walk 20-25 minutes to go home and that I was sick, I really didn't want to walk. But almost everyone already left practice. After waiting 20 minutes, I finally found a ride home. I was soooo ready for a hot shower, but when I started the water...surprise, no hot water. Spending 10 minutes under a freezing shower wasn't exactly the way I thought about to relax after a bad day. Oh and to get better, I got my headache back and my throat feels like someone is putting acid into it.
As I said, bad day.

Sunday February 22nd
I spent an awful night, I have a cold, so I wasn't able to breath well and my throat hurt, so I spent half of the night coughing and blowing my nose...At 5am, I couldn't sleep at all, so I got up and watched a part of a movie! Later in the day, all the family (except teri mom), we went to Angola to do tobogganing! It was awesome! We had super long sleds that we put on tracks and let's go!
We also spent 2 hours in the supermarket to get groceries. My cold didn't really go better through the day, in the evening it gave me a headache and I still couldn't breath...

Saturday February 21st 2015
I'd waited for this day all week long! A girl day with my friends! Bri picked me up at 11am, and we drove to Auburn where we picked up Casey. The roads were bad, because of the snow, so our car got stuck when we tried to drive on a backroad...I tried to shovel the snow in front of the car with my feet but it didn't really work! Hopefully we got out pretty quickly! After that, we picked up Tereza. All 4 of us, in a car with music...how could we not have fun?! Everyone always tells me how good the food at Olive Garden, an italian restaurant, is. So we decided to go there and make me try it! I have to say that they didn't lie! The food was sooo good! Pastas with alfredo sauce, salad and breadsticks...yummi! I discovered a new way to pay...we had a little “computer” at our table, and you could order your food from here, pay there and even play games!
Once we were done eating, we left for the mall. Even if I already bought my prom dress, I still wanted to try some on, because I bought mine really quickly so I didn't really have the fun part of prom dress shopping! And T also needed to find hers. We met Hannah, who shopped with us. I seriously loved trying these dresses on! I felt like a princess every single time! And I was happy because even if I tried really pretty dresses on, none of them fit me as good as the one I bought...None until we went to the store Windsor. There I tried on a light blue dress...and I loved it! I felt so pretty in it! The only 2 problems, the price 140$, and the fact that I already had one! So we left, and I tried not to think about this dream dress! We shopped in some other stores before finally going to Dick's, where I wanted to buy spikes for track. I found a pair I could use for both long distance and high jump, exactly what I wanted! So I bought it and later I got a text of someone who runs long distance with me and he told me that we only wear them during meets... The problem is that I need spikes AND running shoes...I though I could use the spikes all the time but no...As I don't wanna buy 2 expensive shoes, I will have to think if I prefer having good running shoes for practices (most of the season) or meets (where good shoes can help me run faster..)
We even went to try dresses in very expensive stores, where an average dress costs 300$!
We then decided to go to the movies. We went to see the movie “Duff”, and it was a super movie! I loved it ! (the fact that one of the main characters is super hot may have helped!)
We just stopped to buy a milkshake on the way home and our day was over.
It's after spending days like this one with my friends, that I really realize how hard it's going to be to leave them in a few months!

Friday February 20th 2015
We had another delay today. After school, tereza came home and we worked on a project. Bri drove us to school to the last boys home game. It was their senior night. We were all very proud of this team that played amazing this season and made the blazers win so many times!
After the recognition of the seniors, the game started. They played Angola, a pretty good team. Around half time, T and I went to work in the concession stand for the last time! Even if it's better to watch the game, it is fun to work there! Something else I'm going to miss...
The game was really close, but the boys won by 7 points if I remember.

Thursday February 19th 2015
We had a 2 Hour delay this morning! It felt so good to sleep until 9! It was my second track practice with the long distance group! The practice was supposed to be cancelled because of the snow storm outside, but we didn't get the information on time, so we still had it! My blisters from tuesday were still there and, even if running wasn't hard, they hurt me really bad! We only ran 30 minutes this time, and it still wasn't bad, but for an unknown reason, I found it harder than the 50 minutes!
And the abs work out after that was hard! Very hard!

and the athlete with the greatest points total at the end of all events is the winner.

(i think I wanna do high jumps, and 1mile (1600m)or 2 miles(3200m))

Midterm Grades
My fake F !

Well... Hollabaugh humor I guess!

I swear I will stop posting senior night pictures after that!

Best photobomb ever!

Wednesday February 18th
I received my mid terms grades...surprise, I had a F in history! That surprised me because I never had a test and I turned in all my assignments on time! So I went to see Mr. Hollabaugh and ask him about it and he told me that it was supposed to be a A...much better! Now I have As for every subject! When we left school, there was a snow storm! You couldn't see 100m away!
My host family told me that every year they are doing the lent, 40 days when you give up something. (le carême). I decided that I was going to try too! Not for a religious reason but because I want to see if I can give up something I'm addicted to...candy! I'm going to try not eating candy for 40 days! It's going to be really hard but I'll try my best!
I still can eat sweets, just not candy (and chocolate is candy) which means I only can eat pies, cakes...

Snapchat tessje sent me..pretty accurate!

Teri mom cooked us Fish Taco tonight! No meat on Friday during the 40 days also is a part of the lent.

Tuesday February 17th
Today was a special day at school: on the evening, the boys basketball will play in the old gym! This gym hasn't been used since the 1950's, when Butler had its own high school. So the fact that a game is played in it is a big deal over here!
It's not the eastside jacket, but it's an example of these leather jackets everyone wears here. It has the school colors.
Because of that, the entire day was about the 1950's. At school, we had to dress up like people during this time, so I borrowed Teri mom's old leather jacket. (even if it's from the 1980's, we didn't have older!)
Czechie and Swissie and the throwback game!
During my english class, we the tests we did last week...on the 20 people in the class, only 2 of us had a A or a B! Which means that the test was a big fail for everyone...except for me because I was one of the only 2 with a good grade! I had an A! I have to say that I was kind of proud of myself!
I had track practice again, but I still don't know exactly what I want to do, because there are a lot of different activities in track and field! I want to do high jump and a running race, but I don't know between sprint or distance. As last practice I tried sprint, this time I decided to try distance! There were less people, which is good, and only 4 girls! Practice plan: running 50 minutes! When I heard what we were going to do, I though that I would never be able to do it! I don't know if everyone realize...50 minutes of running non stop in the hallways! It's a long time! Surprisingly, I was not tired at all! After 20 minutes of running, most of the people were breathless, and I still felt perfectly fine! The only hard thing was running with volleyball shoes. I haven't bought real running shoes yet, and volleyball shoes are not made to run for a long time..As a result, 2 big blisters that hurt me awfully! I discovered that I had a really good endurance! But i'm still not sure 100% what I wanna do. After these 50 minutes, we stopped and did 10 minutes of abs..but it was a lot harder than the abs we did last practice! So that was a very intense practice, but a good one.
Then I got ready to go to old gym where the boys were playing the throwback game. The gym was super nice, everyone was dressed up like 50's, everyone was very exited, it was very loud. It was even crazier in the student section! It was awesome! We were all cheering, there was a fantastic atmosphere, and I felt this amazing school spirit, the one you can only find in America! Between the Jv and varsity game we even had the chance to meet...Elvis! or at least one of his double! He sand and danced...it was just perfect!
Both jv and varsity won against Woodlan, it really was an awesome night with my friends!
Our old gym
Our amazing student section! try to find estelle! help, she's somewhere in the middle with a shirt color cream..and she's not looking at the camera!

American sweets I received from one of Teri mom's friend... Yummi!

Sunday February 15th
In the morning, I skyped with my best friends, Sara and Laura. It was so good to see them! We talked about everything and I realized that so many things happened in their lives and in mine during these past 6 months!
After a very quick lunch, we left for Auburn where we picked up Tereza and we went to Fort Wayne to do some shopping. I needed to buy running shorts for track, but after I'd been in 4 different stores, I still couldn't find any my size! Too skinny for american sizes.. Not even a good thing.
I started to search for a phone, knowing that I need one in Switzerland and here the prices are a lot lower. However when I went to a phone store, they told me that the iphone 5 was 600$! not really cheap! I don't know if I searched in the wrong place or if unlock phones always are so expensive...I'll have to search more!
Then we shopped a bit for prom dresses. It was the first time I tried some prom dresses on, and it was awesome! I felt like a princess!
One of the two prom dresses I tried on...

Unfortunately the prices weren't so great...an average prom dress costing around 200$! I tried on a red prom dress that fit pretty good...for 80$! it was on sales because the store was closing! I knew that I wouldn't be able to buy a prom dress for less than 100$ if I bought it on store, so...I took it! I only tried 2 prom dresses on and I already bought one!
MY PROM DRESS!

I was really happy!
We also went to dick's before going home, and I finally found a pair of running shorts!

Saturday February 14th
It felt really weird yesterday not to have any basketball practice or any game! It felt...empty.
For my Valentine Day, I spent the day at home, working on a chemistry project (Basketmole) and playing with the Kitchens (neighbors).
Oh! and I also watched 2 movies while eating cookies and other sweets..Not anything special!
PS: the article the journalist wrote about me was also published in the Star, county's journal, this saturday!
I just wanted to share some videos I found on youtube today...

First, I found this channel where the subject is "elders reacting to today's life" or something like this.
For exemple they have a video about elders reacting to tweking, or to Kim kardashian or nickie minaj... I found it pretty funny how these things we see everyday or viewed in a way so different by older people! So here is the link of one of them, you can easily find the other ones...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTOmr9LAACk

And I also found these guys who are putting 2 songs completely different together and the result is just amazing! i let you see by yourselves...
