Saturday May 2nd (Prom)
Huge day...PROM DAY! I woke up pretty early, 8.30am, then I did my nails and I made my bag to go sleep at Kendall's at the end of the day. At 11am, Carly, one of Teri's friends and who is also a hairdresser, came to our house to do my hair for prom. I didn't know exactly what I wanted, so I showed her pictures of hairstyles I liked and she had to do with it... After 45 minutes, I had a superb updo. A kind of messy bun with a braid. I loved it! I ate lunch and then left to Kendall's house to finish getting ready!
So we were all 3 girls (Tessje, Kendall and I) in the small bathroom trying to have our space and look nice! I had to start my make up over, because I used what I thought was a hairspray, and in fact was a sparkles spray...I had glitters all over my face, I was shining! Kendall did my eye make up, and for the first time, I wore fake eyelashes. I really liked them! Finally it was time to put our dresses on... I wore my red dress, Kendall had a yellow one, and Tessje a blue one...all primary colors!
It was a great feeling, once we were all ready. I rarely felt so pretty in my life! We all felt confident and good looking..Tessje's and Kendall's dates then came to Kendall's house, and we all went to the park to take pictures. Prom pictures are a tradition here, and we spent 45 minutes posing!
We went then back to Kendall's house, where my “date”, Joel, met us. He is one of my friends, and he didn't have any one to go with, so I said I could go with him. And it is good because I am a tall girl, but he is like 1m95! The rest of the group went to Mercedes's house to pick her up, and I went to Joel's house because his parents wanted to take pictures too. I also received a corsage, a bracelet of flowers, and Joel had a boutonnière, to put on his tux.
After that, we all met in Auburn, Kendall, Jacob (her date), Tessje, Andrew (her date), Tereza, Kraig, Mercedes, Conner (her date), Abby and her boyfriend, Casey, Haley, Joel and I...All 14 of us! We ate at Sandra D's, a tiny Italian restaurant. We were so many that we were almost the only ones in the restaurant! The food was pretty good, a kind of Olive Garden. We still had 1 hour before the Grand March, so we decided to go mess around at Walmart. The Grand March is a parade where you walk with your date across a hall, you show off your dress, and people can take pictures. So a bit before 7pm, we drove to the ACD Museum, where prom was going to be. The ACD is an old car museum. When we arrived, there were already a lot of people, everyone looked gorgeous! All the girls wore beautiful dresses, they had nice hair and make up, the guys wore tuxes and ties... We signed up, gave our names to the speaker, and made a giant line. Then, the speaker announced our names, and two by two, we walked through this hall. There were people on each side, taking pictures, and we followed the flowers on the floor that told us where to go. We finally passed under an arch of balloons, and exited to meet the other couples outside. There, we still had 1 hour before the official beginning of prom, so everyone took hundreds of pictures! I am not exaggerating when I say hundreds! I took pictures with everyone I knew, smiling so much that my cheeks hurt!
At 8pm, we lined again in front of the entree, we gave our tickets, and we entered in the museum to start our prom...
The museum was super pretty. To go to the fest room, we went across halls full of very old cars. In the main room, there were white, round tables on each side, a little alley in the middle, that conducted to the dance floor at the end. On top of the room, there was a balcony where the prom court would stand later. I sat at a table with the same people I ate with, except Abby and her boyfriend, Casey and Haley. As soon as the music started (we had a DJ), everyone went on the dance floor, and started to dance. It was mostly new music, hits, and there were a few slow dances.
At 9pm, the prom court met at the bottom of the stairs to get ready to announce the 2015 prom queen and king. The prom court is 10 people, 5 girls and 5 boys, all juniors, that had been voted for. We voted twice during the week, to decide who was going to be our new prom queen and king, and looks like people like me, because I am on the prom court! With Kendall, Tessje, Katie, and Sam.
We went upstairs, and they lined up, each of the 5 girl was escorted by one of the 5 boys. I was escorted by Taylor Beard, a nice guy who run distance with me.
The junior class president, and the senior class president both made a speech to thanks the organization, and then they announced us. Taylor and I were the first ones. They opened the doors, and we walked out on the balcony, and placed on the side. Under us, everyone applauded and were looking at us. I felt like a princess! The other couples joined us, and then, last year's queen said: “And this year, the 2015 prom queen is...Estelle Delley” When she said my name, I just laughed. It seemed crazy! I walked in front of the balcony and put a crown on my head. Then last year's kind announced the new king: Tate. He is super nice, and I was happy that he got chosen! Then we all had to slow dance on the balcony, me and Tate, and then the other ones. This slow dance lasted forever! And we weren't done! When we got back down, we had to stay and take pictures.
I was honestly surprised to get prom queen, but it was in a way, a perfect way to end my year here!
And as the queen is supposed to give the crown the next year, I will have an excuse to come back!
We danced a few more hours, everyone had fun...It was an amazing night! At 11pm, prom ended, and we al left.
We went to Kendall's house, to change, and then we went to the school where there was an after prom organized. There were bouncing houses, a bouncing twister, a ninja wall, and some other games. You could win tickets when you played games, then you put your name on it, and you put in a box. Each prize had a box. You could win a TV, mini fridge, laptop, speakers, toaster...And at 1.30am, the winners left with their prize!
But for us, prom still wasn't over. We went to the American Legion where we had breakfast, eggs, pancakes, doughnuts...We also could win prices, and 10 people won 50$ gift cards for Walmart. Finally, at 2.15, we went back to Kendall's. We talked a bit before going to be, so we didn't actually sleep until 3.30am-4am.
