Tuesday 30^th of September

Basic day, with funny moments when Hollabaugh asked me if I had a chalet and I answered him “if course, I'm swiss!”

I finally finished my blue-green spot on my giraffe.. I was working on it for 3 weeks!

We took a test in history... I wrote 3 pages in english! I was proud of me!

No practice because game but before that, we went to the kitchen to put sugar on cookies and we are going to sell them to earn money for breast cancer.

On the game, we won in 3 games, I played not too bad and it was very funny to talk with the guys behind who were here to support us and the Varsity team.

And because we won... No practice tomorrow !

Monday 29^th of July

Even if I was tired, it's time to return to school today! During math class we had a fire exercise. It only lasted for 5 minutes but it was cool to stay outside in the sun for this little time.

In chemistry, we worked on names of atoms... it was kind of frustrating because I spent one year in Switzerland to learn all the names and now I have to do it again since the beginning! But it's not too hard so it's all right!

I played really good at practice again today so I was almost sad when we stopped earlier at 5pm! I know, it's incredible!

At home, I studied for my test in history tomorrow, and the night we watched “the voice”, american version!... I have to say.. it's better than the french one !

 

Sunday 28^th of September

I didn't do anything until 2.30 pm when Tessje came pick me up to go riding! But after 15 minutes in the car, she realized that she noted the wrong hour... we should be there 2 hours ago ! So it was too late and like we didn't want to come back home just after, we stopped at walmart. We did some shopping and then, came back home. I enjoyed the end of the afternoon, laying on the sun, reading...

At 5pm we left to the cabin. We swam a bit in the (cold) lake, played outside, I also met Steve, the neighbor. We all ate hamburgers together.

Teri dad had a old rifle in the cabin and him and Mason practices shooting on paintboxes...and I shot for the first time ! I even touched the box on the 4^th shot ! It was kind of scaring but also very exiting !

Saturday 27^th of September

Woke up at 6.25 because it's tournament day! We drove 45 minutes before arriving at Fairfield High School. After a quick heating, we began to play. The first game, we played against Fairfield (home) and we won in 3 games(the first one we were 15 points before). I played during a little time and pretty good! The second game, we played it against Edon and we won in 2 games. The last game would determined the winner, between us or Lakewood.. We won the first game, they won the second one...

Then we were 4 points before for the last one, (14-10, the 3^rd game ends at 15 points) but they came back and we lost by 1 point (14-15)... it was so frustrating ! 1 point from the cup !

Then we came back, not really sad because even if we lost at the end, we played amazing! I spent a big part of the afternoon just working on my diary and my book report for my english class and around 5pm we left with Tessje and all my family to go to some friend's house. This is also the house where Orshie lives. I don't know if I already talk about Orshi, but she's also an exchange student from Hongry and I met her the night when I went to Fort Wayne with Maggie and Nicole. There also were 2 other little boys. We played volleyball in the garden, watched movies, payed cards.. It was a very friendly night !

Friday 26^th of September

FAIR DAY !!!!! No school today! I was so happy to be able to sleep...until that Gavin woke me up at 7am and told me “wake up, you have a tournament”...the tournament is tomorrow... Hopefully I could sleep a while again and when I finally woke up (around 10) we left to the fair with Teri mom and Delaney. When we arrived, we bought a bracelet that allowed you to do all the rides during all the day. I was really afraid to ride because last time I did it I was 12 and it was so horrible that I'm still afraid! However, I decided to try it. I did the 1001 nachts with delaney and it's amazing ! I liked it so much that I did it another time! Then we went to the “auto-tamponeuses” (I didn't find the name in english). There were only little kids from 3 to 12 in it ! Delaney and I felt really tall! We also did the Whipeout which made me almost sick because my seatbelt was really to tight and I couldn't breath...

When we were done with that, we went to see the animals, because it's the first reason why there's the fair ! The last couple of days, they judges the animals and gave prices and today they sold them. I was really chocked to discover that usually a pig was sold for around 550 $ ! I know it's a hole pig and that's a lot of meat...but it's still a lot of money for a pig! And the cow that won the first price was sold for 2800$ !

that so much! We also visited the different barns that were there.

It was already 2pm so we had to come back because even if it's fair day, that no other team have practice...JV Volleyball have practice! So at 3pm I arrived at school ready to run! And in fact it was an awesome practice! I hit amazing, I've never played like this! The only little problem was that we didn't find where switch on the lights so we played in the dark, with only the security lights on...

We were done at 5pm and at 5.45, Vivian (tessje's host mom) came to pick us up and ride us to MacDonald because we were really hungry... so hungry that I ate 20 chicken nuggets just by myself!

Just after that, we went to the home football game. We had to work at the concession stand for volleyball so I didn't see all the second quarter but the others were really funny! I sat with some new friends: Maddy, Kailen, Ethan, and my crazy little neighbors: Lucy and Jaycie.

And of course the Blazers won! (blazers are the symbol of our school)... 56-0 !!!!!

Thursday 25^th of September

I really forgot what I did this day so the only really important thing was the volleyball game, away at Westview. I played 1 minute backrow but it's really not my position and it was terrible so I didn't stay a long time! Unfortunately, we lost and Varsity too.

Wednesday 24^th of September

Sorry again, I only write that 4 days late so I will probably forget a lot of things...For my excuse, it was a very busy week! For what I remember, the good part of the day was after volleyball practice. I left with Maddy, Tereza, Kendall and Tess to Maddy's house where we changed and then we left all together to the fair. Tereza, Kendall and Tessje rode some rides but I didn't feel really good and I also was afraid of these rides so I didn't. Then we bought some food and we joined other people we knew at the concert. I have to say that fair food is amazing ! I had apples with caramel, whipped cream and cherry that were yummy!

The concert was a country concert and as I like this music, I really liked it!

Tuesday 23^rd of September

I was really tired this morning but I went to school with the smile! Nothing special today I think, I communicated by letters with Jacky in English because our book was really boring.. That was fun ! I also ordered my year book... AMERICAN YEAR BOOK! No practice because..home game! I played 2 times, not really good but it wasn't so bad either so,... I was kind of happy! We won in 2 games, we always win in 3! so really happy! During varsity was playing, I talked with the guys behind who were cheering for our team... They are crazy! Screaming “yes” each time our players touch the ball and “no” each time it was the other team touched it!

Monday 22^nd of September

Return to school! Nothing special about the classes, the good thing arrived after... We had our volleyball practice (not too bad, I begin to like to coach) and then the other girls from varsity told me that they were going to the fair to see Kylie (she's in volleyball too) who's going to be on a fashion show to try to become Miss Delalb 2014! (dekalb is the area where Butler is). I have to explain what is the fair... it's kind of a festival where people show their animals. But the young people first go to eat (there's really good food) and do the roundabout (manèges). It seems like nothing for me but it's a really big deal here... it's THE thing! Before going to the fair, we stopped at a mexican restaurant, and like all the american places it was so cheap ! We shared a big tacos plate with tess and it was 2$ each ! We couldn't even finish it! Then we left the car at Maddie and Tereza's house and we walked during 10 minutes to join the fair. We arrived just in time to see the show begins. The girl we were cheering for was number 10 and she was really beautiful. We had big posters for her and we screamed so loud! We also meet Stephanie (CHI coordinator) who was here for another girl. Kylie didn't win but she was at the 3^rd place.

Tessje and I were supposed to come back with Hailey (a volleyball girl) but she left before the end so we were..without any ride to come back home! Hopefully, Ethan, Landon and Emma were here and as they live in Butler, they asked us if we wanted them to bring us back. (don't worry, I knew them they weren't strangers..)The ride was really funny, we talked, sang...except for the time when we rolled on an opossum! I heard the bones! I came back kind of late (23:00) because of this little... surprise! I didn't think it would be so long! I thought it would be around 1 hour, not 3! It was a really cool night !

Sunday 21^st of September

...and woke up 4.30 hours after! Teri mom came to pick up Tessje and I. At home I was really tired, so I toke a nap until 2pm. When I finally woke up, I ate a snack and just spent the afternoon just relaxing! Just what I needed! Nothing else during the rest of the day, I played piano, toke medicines against my big cold that came back... I'M REALLY SICK AND THAT SUCKS !

Saturday 20^th of September

When I woke up, I continued my diary and I watched 1 or 2 episodes of Grey's Anatomy. Then around 11am, I left to the school to help the theater class to paint the decorations for the play “the little mermaid” that junior high is playing. I painted for 3 hours, some seaweeds...We commended pizzas and ate with all the other kids. Around 2.30pm we came back home and we chilled until 7pm. I watched Grey's Anatomy, played piano... Nothing special for the afternoon! At 7pm we left with Gavin and Tessje to MY FIRST BONFIRE ! (A guy in our school (a senior) invited us to his house with other people). The only problem was that when we left, it began to rain... in fact it was even more a storm! So...bad for a fire! When we arrived everybody was inside watching TV, talking... I already knew most of the people but I also met other people. We watched Grease, danced and sang on the songs... I had my first american party which mean... red cups like in the movies! When it stopped raining, we went outside around the bonfire. However for Emma and I, it wasn't so big so we nicely asked the father of the guy who had the party and... we added gasoline in the fire! Then it was the good size! I was the only exchange student outside so everybody asked me questions about parties in Switzerland.... and the fact that we talked about that made them joking like if I was an alcoholic! But I know they are joking so I don't really care.

Around 11.30pm Maddie decided that it was time to leave and like I'm going to sleep at her house, I had to follow her. In fact I sleep at her house because Tereza (from Czech Republic) is her exchange student and she invited me to stay. Tessje was here too.

Ethan, Taylor, Austin and Landon came to the house because they wanted to hang out with Maddie so while she was preparing, we talked with them. They are really nice ! Then after 20 minutes, they left with Maddie. We watched 2 episodes of Breaking Bad, that I found really weird. It's not my favorite series but it's kind of funny! Like we were 3 girls exchange students, we sure had this conversation : which boy's cute, who do we like... I missed these girl conversations!

Then around 3am, Tessje was tired so she went to bed. Tereza and I weren't tired we stayed awake. We talked, went on facebook, and at 4:30am we were hungry so we went upstairs where we ate ice cream, oreos... Girl's snack! We finally went to bed at 5.10am...

Friday 19^th of September

When I woke up today I decided it was going to be a good day... and it began good! In spanish we did a reliable circle, where we talked about what the guy said yesterday and it was really interesting. We also talked about the way that the girls dress up, what do the guys fins attractive, the other people's opinion, the self-confidence... I had to talked about how people judge other people, the fact than the teenager are all dress up the same, than it's hard to be different... I was really happy to share what I live every day in my country. Then I continue my giraffe and I love painting this! I think it's the best class of the day, it always makes me happy. In ressource we had an exercise to be prepare to a tornado. We had to sit next the wall, some people under the desks... Like the movies! In chemistry I was happy to be able to help some people around me when we worked on the metric system or the conversions because I already did that. Abby, one of my new friend invited me and Tessje to go to the ranch where she works. So after the last class, we went to her car and...LET'S GO! We put the music very loud, opened the window and just enjoyed this moment... it's hard to think that I will only live that during one year.. and when I think about that, I just try to enjoy every minute and every second to be sure to not miss anything...

Anyway, we had to stop at her house because she needed to change her pants, I played a bit with her little brother and she showed us her horse.. Because she has a horse in her ground. Like we didn't want to be late, we left and 15 minutes later we arrived at the ranch where she works. We met Emilie and Macy who works there too: Emily's Abby's boss. Tessje wanted to take lessons so they toke the horses and Tessje rode. During this time, I stayed with the other girls and we talked. Abby came back with another horse she wanted to ride. She proposed me to ride it too so... I was on the horse behind her! Like she's use to ride without saddle we went both on the horse without saddle, we did without it! The only problem was when he suddenly began to run... I almost fell and Abby too! But it was funny! Then we toke care of the horses, we fed them... We toke the horse from outside to their boxes but when I put mine in his box, he began crazy and went out again by jumping on my foot.. Hopefully it didn't hurt too much! We were hungry so we went to Taco Bell... I went for my first time! It's a fast food for burritos, tacos, mexican food.. Good! When we wanted to go back to the car, Tess pushed me and.. my drink fell on the floor! My new drink... Ouinnnnnnn !!!!¨Never mind, we continued our road to Garett where is the football game. Garett is our biggest rival so we really wanted to win and... We won ! Everybody was just so exited ! On our way to come back, we stopped again to taco bell with teri mom and Delaney because they wanted to buy something to eat and guess what we discovered on the parking... my drink !!!

Like I decided when I woke up... it was an amzing day !

Thursday 18^th of September

Like today is about bullying, in the first class we watched some videos about this topic. It really made me think about that and touched me. It also was kind of depressing...

10 minutes before the end of the math class, we had to leave to the auditorium where there was a band and a guy who were here to talk about bullying.

  I thought (like everybody) that it was going to be annoying but really not! The guy, Billy, knew how to communicate with us and it was in the same time kind of funny and very touching. I talked us about his life, he was a drug addict, kind of alcoholic, he had a kid when he was 18 but they toke it away from him because he wasn't a good father.. then he did jail.... Not a funny life but we saw that now he was a good man again and it was possible to change. It was really interesting! We also talked abut sucide, how we could help people and he asked if we knew people who died because of a bad decision and at least 30 persons raised their hand.. it was a lot ! Then there was another band, break the grey, who did kind of sketch about bullying. It was such an amazing conference.

Next period I had a test about the movie we saw “Dave” but I totally failed it. However with the help of the girl in front of me I had a C. We had another game tonight but we only left at 4:30 so 1 hour after the end of the last class. During this time we went to the main gym where we had a girl conversation with the other girls in volleyball. We talked about boys, hang out with friends... I missed this! Then we played away. And... it was amazing! In a team, we have the people who play all the time, and some people who are like a team. One play front row all the time and the other back row. And I played the front row partner for Chelsea... ALL THE GAME ! So I played a hole game. I didn't play so bad, I passed a lot of ball, I even swung! And for once, the ball passed the net (I went to far). But it was good! And we won! Varsity also won, and then we came back home... Happy !

Wednesday 17^th of September

Really happy today to discover a that I had a big cold when I woke up... I can't breath by my nose, which gives me a big headache... So I wasn't in a really good mood...In government we continued our movie but I didn't really enjoy it because my nose hurt so bad... So after the last class, I decided to come back home and don't go to the volleyball practice because running when we can't breath perfectly is generally not a good idea ! I did my homework and my diary and played a bit with Lucy and Tate and corrected my book report. Sick day.

Tuesday 16^th of September

 

We toke a test in spanish (20/20) and we finished the one we began yesterday in math class. Then in ressource, we watched a short video about an event we're going to see on thursday. I didn't really understand what it was but it seems to be about bullying. The difference is that it's not going to be just a people talking but a rock band singing about that. I'm exiting to see it ! Last “special” thing, in government we watched a movie “dave” about a president. We didn't have any volleyball practice because we will have a game on the evening, however I asked the coach to teach me how to dive. Everybody can dive to take the ball..except me and tess... So during 20 minutes I just fell, hit the floor.. and tried again. Bad idea : I still don't know how to do it and now my knees are purple !

A JV volleyball game is like this (Varsity is a bit different) : To win, you have to win 2 games, each games is 25 points. If each team won 1 game, the third one will only be until 15 points.

This game, we played against Garett, another high school and people told me that they were our RIVALS ! So we HAD TO WIN ! We won the first game, lost the second one. The third game was really close, 13/15... and we won ! One of the only game we won was the one against our rivals ! We were so happy ! And for once, I played back row.. What I'm not use and..it wasn't so bad !

Each time we have to stay for varsity to finish so we just waited during their 5 games... (it's longer than JV). Then we had to take off the net and we finally could come back home. (My knees still hurt)

The night, during the football game, we elected the queen and the king for homecoming. Each grade had one couple. The girl with the crown is the senior's queen. Another unique moment only in the USA !

Monday 15^th of September

I don't know why but today I was really too tired. During the two first classes, I almost fell asleep ! Even when we toke a test in math class ! But even if I was tired, I couldn't sleep during ressource...and I really tried ! After lunch, in government, the teacher gave us some food, because he didn't eat everything for his lunch. So in the middle of the class we had hamburgers with pheasant's steack. I ate this bird for the first time and it was pretty good ! The practice was good, we played like a real game. Both of my parents weren't at home so they asked tessje's parents to pick me up. Unfortunately, tessje's parents told Tessje the same thing so we were outsied, under the rain, with our parents each thought that the others were going to pick us up. Hopefully, we asked Julia's father (one of our volleyball friend) to bring us home so everything was good. I watched TV with Mason, did my homework and then we watched “American's got Talent” before going to bed.

Sunday 14^th of September

 

I didn't really do anything today. During 4 hours, I did my book report for my english class. Then I played outside with the kids and the night we watched an american football game on eh TV before sleeping. Sorry, not a really exiting day to read !

Saturday 13^th of September

Saturday began very early... wake up at 6:15 because we had a volleyball tournament! The only problem was that when I searched for my jersey (that I would have to wear)... and I didn't find it. So when I arrived, I trained with the others when Teri mom and Terry dad were searching at home. But when we began the first game, I called them and they told me that they searched around all the house, moved the bed, emptied my closet.. and didn't find anything ! So without the jersey I won't be able to play because everybody need to wear the same thing.. So during the 9 hours the tournament was, I just sat and waited. It was really boring! And for once, I really wanted to play, I wasn't nervous and the coach wanted me to play...and I couldn't ! It was so frustrating !!! We played 4 matches, we lost the first one, we killed the team on the second one and the 2 last, we lost by 1 point...

I don't know where we were in the classification but not I think in the last ones...

When I came back home I was really tired, so I toke a nap and then I prepared myself for homecoming... around 1 hour before, I went to Kendall and Tessje's house. We left all together to school where was the game. When we arrived, it was all dark, with colorful light and music. Not a lot of people were dancing but after 3 minutes, me and Kendall were dancing like crazy girls on the dancefloor. After a while more people came, we danced an american dance, “left step, right step, chachacha...” it was really funny ! They passed 40's,50's,60's and 70's musics (homecoming theme), new musics, slows... the only bad musics were when during 20 minutes then passed old rock / hardrock... Not really perfect to dance ! I danced a lot with Tereza (the exchange student from Czech Republic, tess, Kendall, Linsey, Maddison, Mercedes and I met new girls like Rebecca (who's awesome !)

When we finally came back home, I was both tired and still exiting.. It was such a perfect evening !

Friday 12^th of September

 

Last day of homecoming week ! The theme is spirit day so everybody wore a t-shirt of the school. In government we watched a video of boys doing a cellos “fight”. It's amazing ! http://youtu.be/0X-1aa54KgA it makes me happy ! In english we toke the traditional tests and the practice was good.
The good moment of the day was the homecoming football game !!!

It was so cool !!! I stayed with my friends, Kendall, linsey, Maddison, tess, Sam, Mercedes... it was really funny and we won ! Sorry, I write that like 4 days after so I don't really remember everything...

Thursday 11^th of September

 

AMERICAN DAY !!! To commemorate the attack on the world trade center 13 years ago and for the homecoming week, everybody has to wear some american clothes...I wore a blue jeans and a red t-shirt and I printed an american flag on the front and a picture that said: this girl loves america ! Everybody told me it was cool ! In spanish we watched some documentary on youtube about the 9/11 which was kind of depressing.... 1 hour of desolation and people jumping from the towers... happy to begin the day ! Then during ressource, all the people who signed for the different challenge we're gonna do tomorrow had to go to the main gym.. Tessje signed me for the ice cream challenge...so we didn't practice but we saw the other ! I also bought my ticket for homecoming during lunch. I came back home after school because we had a game away which means we only had to be at school at 4.45. During this time, I played with the kids. The game wasn't far, around 20 minutes from the school and we didn't play, only varsity team. I was in a bad mood at the end of the day so I went to bed quickly.

Wednesday 10^th of July

 

First part of the day was depressing... It rained so bad, I was late, I didn't want to wake up, I was tired, I didn't understand my math class, I felt ugly... Happiness...

Then I had my english class (usually the class I really don't like) but it was fun and one friend asked me if I wanted to hang out with her and another one proposed me to go to her ranch to ride horses.. It's like if I was making real friends ! It's amazing !During ressource, we had the first meeting for the spanish club, you sign up, you come to the meetings, you can help to decorate the hallways for special days, we're maybe going to take a spanish dances lesson, sell pinatas...

It's gonna be really fun !

Other important event, I received my first paper with my grades for the first month and I have... Nothing less than A- ! I have four A and three A-... Better than some english kids ! We had another game at home, against Dekalb, I only played during 5 minutes but I'm good with that... We lost..by 1 point ! It was so frustrating ! The varsity team lost by one point too...

SCHAUFSEKRE !!!! (only volleyball girls will understand)

For dinner, we had a kind of hamburger... same bread but with a pork steak... huge ! Like 4 times the bread ! It was really good .. Only disappointment in the day... I missed Obama's speech...

Tuesday 9^th of September

 

Before going to school, I played a bit piano for Mendy because she wanted to heard how her piano sounded when it was tune ! The theme today is powderpuff shirt so all powderpuff players had a shirt... and I also had one, not because I played, just because I wanted one ! Nothing really special for the classes, volleyball was cool because we had an explication with the coach and she apologized to be sometimes mean so.. everybody was happy ! I didn't play really good but we worked on something I'm usually not able to do so I was already happy to pass it !

I came back home for 20 minutes and then we returned to school to see the powderpuff game. Powderpuff is the american football for girls. Each grade has a team (freshman (9^th grade), sophomore(10^th grade), juniors (11^th grade, me), seniors(12^th grade)). They played against the freshman and they won and then they played against the senior and.. THEY WON AGAIN ! The juniors are the champions ! So pround of my grade team !

Monday 8^th of September

 

Spanish test, (18/20), I began my real giraffe project and we toke a test in government. When I finished classes, I stayed at school to help some juniors to decorate the hallway. Like it's homecoming week, we have things to do each day. Like today was the jersey day, everybody had to wear a jersey (even if not everybody did it). And there is a challenge, each grade decorate his hallway and then some teachers judge it and one grade is elected best hallway. We (the juniors) had the theme 60's, so we had big flowers, things colorful, peace and loves, historical posters...the result was amazing !

Then I went to volleyball because we have another game. We practiced a bit and then we played. We won the first set, and lost the second one. And I did something so stupid that I still feel so shameful : we only can touch the ball 3 times, and when they gave me the ball, I was sure that we already touched it 3 times, I just blocked it.. like a perfect idiot ! Everybody was just staring at me and I felt SO BAD ! Then they explained me that it was a block and it didn't count like a touch... but the public didn't know that I didn't know this rule so they maybe just thought I was stupid... SHAME!!!

Sunday 7^th of September

When I woke up, I learned some piano songs to Mason, I chilled... until 12pm when we ate lunch and left for Mason's baseball game. On the road, teri mom explained to me that a lot of amish people lived around here. Hamish people live with a different religion but principally a different way of life. Without electricity, cellphone, cars... they move with a carriole, they wear very basic clothes... Kind of return to the past..

When we arrived at the baseball field, we left Mason with his team and we walked 15 minutes with Teri mom to go to the town. She explained me the way of life of amish people.. I don't know how they do to live like this but I couldn't !

It was like a tournament so he played 2 games. Each one for 2 hours... At the beginning it was great, I loved to watch it but after 3 hours it began to be long... So we came back home a bit earlier with Teri mom. I toke a little nap and when I woke up, Stephanie called me to ask me some questions that CHI has to ask at the end of each month. It was like : “ did you make friends”, “do you respect and understand the rules”...

The dinner was delicious; kind of big pastas with meat and tomatoes inside.. YUM !
